If you feel the need to alert us that you are rebooting a research server, perhaps you might feel the need to alert us you are rebooting the server that has the firewall on it?

Because you know there are 5000 people in the company web surfing, chatting ect... but only 200 in research that use that server.

DOH! Yeah I think this is the one day shit will roll up hill. I don't think we get to play pick the server to reboot day without notice. Nope. Not on my shift.

How long does it take your firewall server to reboot? Unless it's doing some really weird caching or something, I can't imagine the downtime would be more than a minute or so, no?

Unless it's a Windows server... *chuckle*

My FreeBSD server, running apache (hosting many sites), samba, qmail, a dns cache, and mysql (with many databases) reboots in about 30 seconds from beginning of the TERM to all services back up.
