Not so much a tale as a warning:

Today we had a Telewest engineer round to fix my land line. Coming back after making a cup of tea, my gran - who was the only person available to stay home at such short notice - found the guy, who she thought had left, using my PC.
We have broadband, and even if it had been a broadband issue, last time I had a broadband issue, they refused to touch the machine unless I was there. Finding the guy still there has scared the wits out of my gran, who only realised he *was* when he coughed.
So, if you're having ANYONE round, even if they're from a company you trust - take the time off, don't leave it to your gran.

Telewest... the company I banned from the Frontier racks for being incompent to levels which I had only had nightmares about. I don't think I'd trust them to wire a plug.

I'd suggest that you complain. Who knows, he might have been looking at your personal files or emails!

Oh I have complained. And as soon as I've had a good look at it, I'll be calling them again to let them know exactly what he did to it.

I use to do in home service, and even though we were there to fix the computer, we ALWAYS asked for permission before touching the machine.

I'm sure my current set of co workers wonder why I end up hanging around when we have someone on site to diddle with our networking gear. Primary reason is because I'm responsible for it, and if it breaks or causes problems, it's my bum in the sling. (fortunately, I've not had anything like this problem yet.)

Hell I dislike giving instructions over the phone to users let alone actually fiddling directly with their machines. It's a sodding minefield before you factor in the moron factor helpdesks get.

Well to make matters worse, he's not fixed the issue, apparently *can't* on his own and we can't get it fixed until the 11th. It's time to talk to Watchdog I think.
