Monday Morning Fun...

Monday morning should be interesting. We are FINALLY implementing a password policy and come Monday morning, everyone will have to change their passwords for the first time EVER. *Sigh*

It started on Friday...
User: "I logged out of Windows and tried to change my password but I couldn't find "Change Password" when I hit control alt delete."
Me: "You need to be logged into Windows to do this. Log back in and follow my directions."
User: "But it didn't work when I hit control alt delete. I didn't see that option."
Me: "Like I mentioned, you need to be logged into the network to change your password. Log back in and hit control alt delete, then click "Change Password."
User: "Ok, I'll try it again but it didn't work this time."
Me: *Shoots self*

This will really be interesting...really, really, interesting. 80 or so users, one of me. I can't wait.

You should have a PA system set up.. Talk every person in the company through it at the same time.

I fear the day when we change our password policy. I really do.

'course, the old boss had all the passwords written down in his PDA did absolutely nothing to relieve my fears about this.

"I got some error message, I think its a virus. Can you come take a look?"

Shockingly, I haven't seen any of those yet. Unless you count the certificate I gave one lady for trying to insert a CD into the little space between the drive bay covers because that's where she thought the CD went...

Oh, so much fun. It amazes me how many people can't see the Change Password button.

Joyously, they had to reinstate the password policy on our as400 because of a security audit. Note that we had removed it because the software we're moving people to has a bad design flaw: it doesn't prompt people when their password expires, so they just end up getting disabled. So they reinstated it. Then, the day everyone's passwords expired for the first time after the change just happened to be the day after they did an upgrade.

So my phone calls were all 'I can't get logged in. I think the upgrade messed it up.' All. Day. Long.
