I suppose it's too much to hope that this person was just looking for their user id....

Apparently so. They knew what their user ID and password was. We have a tool to synchronize about 80% of the different passwords, including that one. They were working in the Emulator program from their XP desktop, and didn't have it set to auto connect to the address of the mainframe. (possibly setup this way for them as there are three mainframe computers, and someone probably assumed they needed to specify the address each time)

So when they launched it, it came up to a blank screen instead of the standard login prompt for one of the mainframe servers.
