UNBELIEVABLE

I severely dislike this company that took us over and most of the people that work in it. Here's three examples of why. Here's one from today and one from Friday and one from a while ago (not sure when)

Late last month we got a call from a user saying that she can't use the F1 key under the terminal emulation software that the new company provided her when they reloaded her system.

A coworker of mine tried a few things and determined that she's able to use this key in this section of our software with an IBM 3151 terminal and our old terminal emulation software. It just will not work with their terminal emulation software. Regional support for this company did not load our terminal emulation software on her computer (out of every location that we have she's the only one that didn't receive this application on the new PC they provided her)

So he puts in a detailed explanation in the ticket saying "this is an issue with the xxxx terminal emulator not our software one of two things needs to be done. Either A - this software needs to have the F1 key mapped properly so it tells our software when it's being pressed (our terminal emulator needed a PF1 to be put in keyboard mapping for instance) or B - the terminal emulator that we used previously needs to be installed on her PC.

So it was then transferred back to the tier 1 helpdesk queue where it sat around for a day or two. Then it was transferred to the xxxxx terminal emulation support queue where it sat for FIFTEEN days.

Well today it made it back to our queue. The xxxx terminal emulation support team representative had this to say "It's an issue with your software, not ours" Nowhere in the ticket does it say that he tried to check on anything just a log entry 15 days later saying that. Unbelievable.

The other day there was an issue with some data transmissions not being received not being received correctly. So the materials replenishment team (or whatever they're called) places a ticket and gives us a bunch of truck #s. I have one of our old programmers go through the system to see if he can find what they're talking about.

After an hour of searching he comes up empty handed and says to me "I think they gave us bogus information. If they could provide the Bill of Lading numbers or the Manifest numbers I may be able to find it based on that however" so I write an e-mail back to these people saying very clearly "We're unable to find the problem you're referring to based on the truck numbers you provided. If you could provide the Bill of Lading or Manifest number instead we may be able to help you. If you are unable to provide these numbers we can't help you"

A little curt but I've learned you have to be direct with these people at this company otherwise they don't get it . . . Unfortunatly I wasn't curt enough.

I get cced on an e-mail from the person who placed a ticket to someone else that works for her "Could you give him the info he needs?" Then a few minutes later saying "This is the information we provided" with all the truck numbers enclosed.

So I reply to her e-mail "Hi, these appear to be the truck numbers that were already in the ticket. What I need from you is either the Bill of Lading or Manifest numbers instead. Without this information we will be unable to help"

So about 10 minutes later I get cced on an e-mail from this person that she sent to someone at the company that they were ordering from. "Can you give this person the BOL or Vehicle # for the shipments with problems?"

AAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!

At this point I shoot off another e-mail using reply to all. "Hi xxxxx and yyyyy, Just to make sure we're clear on what's needed . . . The vehicle numbers have already been provided. What I need in order to help you is either a Manifest or Bill of Lading number. The vehicle number is not needed"

*crosses eyes* Then this lady sends me a message on Sametime later that day to ask why I sent her a form that she requested I fill out and send back to her. My response was "I filled it out and sent it back to you because you asked me to fill it out and send it back to you." "Oh ok I'll just file it then"

This was within the past two weeks. My boss saw a ticket come in that was covered in an article that we had written so tier 1 would know what to do in a given situation. It had step by step instructions on how to solve a problem. It was a quick fix so she just did it but after she finished it she sent our main contact at this place an e-mail saying "Hi take a look at this ticket. I took care of it however tier 1 should've done this. I did a search in the system based on what the plant told them and this was the first article to appear in the search. Is there something we should be doing to make this easier to find?"

She receives an e-mail the next day "I spoke with the tech who handled the ticket and got a good response" Huh?

So she e-mails back basically saying "What is that supposed to mean?" (not her exact words but close enough) He e-mails back saying that we need to add in keywords to the search that are closer to the verbage that the plant used. The thing was we searched based on the verbage the plant used and we found the article immediatly. *bangs head against desk*

A similar thing happened today. My boss was on vacation. I saw the ticket, found the article right away and sent it right back to their queue saying that the problem was dealt with in xxxx article" I sent an e-mail to the lead we're supposed to contact with issues saying "I did a search based on this term, this term and this term and this was the first article to come up. All those search terms were in the ticket that was placed I don't see what else he could've been searching by. Is there anything I can do to make this article more visible?" I wonder if he'll send back another bullshit e-mail back.

Only 49 more days until November 30th and I get my severance package. I gotta keep my eye on the prize.

Another good thing is it appears that demand for PC Tech/Helpdesk people in the Chicago area is increasing because I've been getting a fair amount of calls about my resume on Monster.com. Anyone have any suggestions for other places to post my resume up? I want to try to get into another job right away when my end date comes up.

Try CareerBuilder.com, I've had much more success with them than monster.
Also, every morning "edit" your resume on any site. This will bring it up first when the recruiters do their search in the morning.

Thanks for the advice. That was just as good as diamonds... well maybe I can make enough to have some diamonds...

Wow even I thought that was lame, sorry.

I should have said Unemployed Recruiting Assistant. :-)
Although I've certainly used the site to recruit from, I'm currently using it to find a job.
