My company has a dress code, which was recently changed to revoke the right to wear jeans in patient care areas on Fridays. This rule applies to all employees who aren't uniformed per their position. PC techs, though technically in that category, are permitted to wear jeans on days when they know they have to do an install. Granted, I don't always know in advance when I'll have to install or replace a PC, but it's a rare day when I don't find myself crawling under someone's desk. So I'm wearing jeans today, which was the first thing one of the receptionists noticed when I just went upstairs to our radiology reception area to replace a PC. When I informed her (as I was kneeling on the floor) of the reason why we techs are allowed to wear jeans on occasion, she shot me a very disdained look and then proceeded to mention it to her supervisor... I came so close to telling her, "Look--if your job required you to crawl on your hands and knees instead of sitting at your desk playing solitaire half the time, they'd probably let you wear jeans, too."

...I'm so glad the dress code where I work is 'clothes'.

Bah, silly middle class morality.

You should have told her that. I probably would have wound up in all kinds of trouble for adding on "...and lady, grow up. Most people stop tattling around the time they're done with pre-school."

Damn! I would have asked her when did you start reporting to her vs. your supervisor.

You know, I would have grabbed the computer game and just been messing with her pc the next week or so. Teach her to give you grief.

We have a no tattoo or piercing policy.

Which is weird, because we work strictly within the office. It's not like we have to go anywhere.

I heard it's because my boss doesn't want us to look like a bunch of amateurs to the rest of the people in the building.

No tattoos VISIBLE? Or period? Because it's not like you can strip down potential hires to prove tehy don't have tattoos.

Visible.

On the same note, I'm sure you can have whatever you want pierced, as long as the boss can't see it.

Although there were some scandalous office rumors going around..

Maybe she's just bitter because her job does require crawling around on her hands and knees....

Exactly. Are there any dedicated computer cleaners? Does anybody wipe down those Ethernet cables? No. Thus I would not ruin a $200 power suit just to look good with my arse sticking out from under a desk, or having some dirty dust monitor held against my body.

They once changed our dress code at my office to 'business casual' and revoked the right to wear jeans. Or any denim at all really.

This made all of IT have to dress up, because we were wearing jeans already.

That is, until we saw some of the HR folks (who were down the hall from us) wearing denim. We started wearing it again. They eventually changed it back to jeans allowed on Friday, but given how often some of us have to crawl around? We wear them anyway.

Of course, the folks who work out in some of the plants wear ratty clothes anyway, no matter the day. I've covered out there -- there is no way you're getting me to wear anything good or light colored in a plant where in order to get to most of the place you have to be in steel toes, long pants, safety glasses and a hardhat and which I've come back from an install black up to my elbows.

I wear a suit and tie.
But then again I work as an ISP supporttech so I don't have to get down on the floor that much. ;-)
