Ok, I work in a small Helpdesk for a non-profit org. We have Novell Netware and Groupwise. (Puke) I hate Novell so much that I just had to share it. Groupwise is such a piece of cat crap. It's completely NOT user friendly. I want my Outlook!!!!!!

This is killing me.

oh yea

That's the most retarded thing I've read.. ever.

Get off the Internet, moron. Groupwise/Novell is far better than Exchange/Outlook on Windows 2kx. Jeez.

Good luck supporting THAT.

Are you serious? That was tame.

Please back away, I'm a disgruntled Network Admin out of town setting up a branch office that's using a ISDN...

In mother fucking Kansas.

I guess being a Network Admin automatically makes it okay to be a dick... I see.

You brought Kansas on yourself, buddy.

Not a dick, but a BOFH.

And yeah, I kinda was a dick last night. Chalk that one up to being grouchy, tired, and away from home. Sorry ;).

Yeah, he could be me.

I broke a novell network in my classroom when I was a freshman back in high school. One of the early versions hadn't quite locked everything down, especially if you HAD to use word-processing programs. Fun, fun, fun. That was the year I made money off of technology(selling my work to other students over the network.)

Netware zealot! ;-)

But I agree - Groupwise is (quirky, but) better than Outlook.

Spare a thought for me - we were running Groupwise 5.5 on a Win98 based image - but when creating the Win2k image, upper management decreed that Exchange would be the flavor of email we used from now on..

*tear*

Viruses and crashing servers, oh my!

For the last 2 years, among other duties, I have been the admin of our Exchange server . I have had zero problems with it. With virus updates, Exchange and OS service packs kept up to date it can be a stable and virus free system.

I guess what I am trying to say is Exchange does not automatically mean viruses

I'm not a Netware zealout, just a anything-but-Microsoft zealout :).

I do admit, though, that the fileservers and mail servers I admin are running Netware/Groupwise. My personal box is running SuSE/Postfix, but hey.. whaddya do?

That's the most retarded reply I've ever heard...ever.

There is no need to jump down someone's throat like that.

Depending on who, and with what skills, each system is administered...either one could be the better solution.

These kind of tired worn out arguments are what annoy me about my field. I am so sick of PC\Mac arguments, Windows\Linux arguments, Half Full\Half Empty arguments. Let everyone have their opinion and not shove it down someone elses nostril.

Not trying to jump at you bdinger, but I don't find it very polite to tell someone that their post concerning their dislike for certain software is retarded.

I'm sure you have heard more retarded, but I can be quite certain there have been many far and above on LJ.

Eh, depending is a broad term. I have yet to find a installation where Outlook/Exchange is the best solution, but rather used because it's there.

I think you are correct. As I said in a previous reply, you can chalk that one up to me being in a foul-ass mood, and full BOFH mode last night ;).

the best network i was running had linux, novell and windows NT (yes this was pre2k. each one had their specifc purpose and they worked together beautifully. its a toolbox. you use what you need to get it done.....

so i guess this was my own bass-ackward way agreeing with you

i rather thought groupwise and novell was pretty neat.

i know it passed the abuse test and didnt finally fail till we pulled hardware out of the box while it was running....

Allright, let's try this again, shall we? :)

What's the problem with GroupWise? I've pulled my hair out about several issues with it, that have been simple issues that I've tried to make more complex (doe).

Or, you could just have moronic users. Then I suggest adopting a BOFH attitude. It's fun.

I admit a hatred of Outlook, but that's mostly because I think that the MS developers didn't talk to one another while coding it. Why else would there be so many different random places to do stuff, including some things repeated in weird places?

Of course, it's what we use at work, too.

Doing phone support for essentially all versions of it, I've come to believe that Outlook was developed to keep MCSEs busy.

hmmmm
