"When I click on 'my account' it gives me a 404. What's wrong with your website?"

"Ok, well the 'my account' listing there is part of a java box. Its not actually a link, its a drop down menu, you should have 'Account Management' and 'Webmail' as two options there, do you get a drop down box?"

"No."

"OK, well you might want to try downloading java from sun.com"

"I use java on MY website and it works fine"

"Ok, do you have the latest version?"

"No!"

"Well, you should try downloading and installing it then"

"My computer isn't the problem, its your website. Your site is the only site on the internet having this problem."
(refrained from saying : so you reached the end of the internet eh? did you fall off?)

"Sir the page works fine for me. The problem is on your computer somewhere. It may be IE, it may be a java issue, I don't know, but you'll need to reinstall java as it's the most likely suspect."

I have those days. But I also have those moments when I don't know what the heck the problem is and somehow I find it, fix it, and the caller thinks I'm a genious :D

I've been on the giving end of that too. There've been times that one of my bosses told me to try things that I thought were a complete waste of time. Sometimes they were sometimes they weren't When they weren't I usually walked back into his office with a sheepish grin "It worked didn't it" "Yup" "HA!"
