I took the time about 3 weeks ago to install Firefox and Thunderbird on my mom's computer and get rid of IE and OE. Well, I walk upstairs today and guess what, SHE MANAGED TO GET INTO OE! AHHH!!! Apparently, somehow, a shortcut got re-added to her quick launch bar. So guess what I did... I set the shortcut for OE to point to Thunderbird. Now when she clicks the Launch Outlook Express button, it launches TB.

Are you sure OE is gone? There are instructions on the MS website for removing it, and I swear it's like killing a virus. It respawns if you don't kill all of it.

Unless I didn't get it the first time, it had to be the Win update... It's an eCrap computer so it didn't have office (Star Office came on it)

but I've had major issues with firefox crashing on my XP system.

It's not an XP system.. It's running ME, but it seems to be one of the few stable installs of ME out there so I'm not touching the OS. I've actually been trying to persuade her to get a new machine, but she's attached to this one even though she thinks it's way too slow.

Avant Browser.
Think IE with some Opera features, a great pop-up blocker, ad blocker, and control over what can/can't run through menu interface rather than "disable this, allow that" shite in config.
