I know that most people could probably go to the domain's main site for this information but you might want to tell people what city, state the job is in :)

Unrelated requirements.

I am just curious...

No offense, but a BS degree in CS, MIS, CIS, or MATH for a tech support job?

This has to be quite the support job, either that or you are looking for complete morons.

I guess I am just shocked at this as most Universities that offer BS in CS or MIS gear towards either development, AI, DB engineering, or systems analysis. For instance at the University of Minnesota teaches courses based off of Java, Unix, and Scheme. With my 7 years of experience with support, I just fail to see how requiring a BS degree in something totally unrelated could help your company fill that position.

Anyways thanks for allowing me to rant and I hope your company finds what they are looking for.

Most tech support positions put degree requirements like that in their job postings. Basically it's more a "our ideal candidate would have these" kind of thing, but it's rarely ever an actual requirement. Every job I ever had, had those in their job postings - yet I don't posses any of those degrees and managed to get the jobs anyway. I often find "job requirements" are more a of a wishlist than a requirement.

This is very true, I guess it just bothers me that companies would use a degree to restrict or describe whether or not someone is fit for a position. You know as well as I do that there are plenty of people without degrees who could fix a computer blindfolded, hungover and playing everquest all at the same time.

I guess you are right about the fact that qualifications are more important than education. I just get frustrated when people do not understand the difference between BS degree and someone who qualifies for that position.

That's kinda like one lady I used to work with . . . She hired a secretary. She was going on and on about how great she was and how she had a degree in programming. Oh boy!

Mind you this secretary's job had NOTHING to do with computers aside from scheduling in Lotus Notes and typing memos in Word for a large medical organization. Nothing technical as far as computers go. How does a programming degree help for that position?

Ewwwww. That is just settling.

There is nothing in life that is good settling for, like marriage, and job, and place of residence.
