This post reminded me of one I've been meaning to post for a while.

I work in a school as one of three "ICT Support Specialists" (in quotes because it's a completely meaningless title). Our school is split over 4 or 5 buildings on a single site, with our offices being in the daftest places imaginable (i.e. not terribly near most of the IT rooms). We regularly get kids come to the door with "Miss X said to tell you none of the computers in room y are working". So we go to the room concerned to investigate. We've never yet had a room where none of the computers are working - most of the time it's two kids trying to log on with caps lock on, or a single broken mouse...you get the idea. Our classrooms have 30 pcs in each. And no matter how often we point out that it makes sense to give us at least a vague idea of the problem, some of the teachers still won't.

Bah.

That is why you hook up some tazers to the keyboards of each PC.

I like the way you think, but it really should be something witty I can't come up with right now because it's 7:56am, and really really painful.

I have been at work since midnight and am sufficiently loopy enough to come up all sorts of weird shit.

But didn't you know? They HAVE to tell you all of them or down, because then you'll come see them faster! Honest!

I am too, when they do that.

Or really, since I answer the phone as well as do people's security requests, if they call and gripe about something they /just/ got approved two hours ago, I put them at the bottom of my list.

Hee. I worked in a school for a year, straight after I graduated from it. It was... hell. But still funny to use VNC viewer and take over a user's computer and log them out for unnecessary Hotmail usage during class etc >_

I helped out at my school (6th form responsibility thingy - ended up as one of the 3 or 4 people who knew how the network worked). One of the best tricks was to watch the rooms at lunchtime thru VNC, and when we found someone on a site they shouldn't be, add it to Censornet and then hit Ctrl+F5 remotely. You could almost see the wheels turning thru the network as they try to work out why a site they were using has suddenly become filtered. The smart ones go elsewhere. The dumb ones keep trying. The really smart ones have clued into out use of VNC (on slow machines it makes the mouse pointer jerk if you move it quickly) and type messages into Word telling us to go away.
Great fun!
