I had to translate this:

Sub will not take her router offline to check Toshiba connection.
States she is always offline.
States her Toshiba modem from BHN is smoking, but will not unplug it.
Advised her of fire hazard; she states she will watch for smoke from the modem and unplug it when it starts smoking.
---
Sub said they are still having issues with modem. Sub is unable to surf by DNS, only by IP.
Sub still never swapped modem after they said it caught fire.
Sub very reluctant to do any troubleshooting, swears it is not router.
Authorized sub for modem swap at payment center(?). If sub still has issues will call back.
---
Sub's modem was on fire at some point. Sub wanted me to hit it.
Sub stated he worked for Cisco and was very grateful.
I hit it and it's now working.

SUB STATED HE WORKED FOR CISCO

Yeah well, I worked for a NASA contractor...didn't make me a rocket scientist. And I like how you call them "SUB".

My goodness, it was such an awful system I didn't want to believe that more than one company had bought it. :P

Never really experienced anything like that, though it is entirely possible I would have missed it in the background radiation of the usual cancelled connects, bad work orders, odd things...

Our sups weren't really supposed to have the power to fix things like that; the only reason they could is that a couple of them had come from other areas and brought passwords with them.

Reminds me of my post in the customer's suck community way back in 2002. Go read it, because I went to the trouble of digging it up.
