Could someone please tell me why I am working on Independence Day, but Covad's outsourced 'techs' in INDIA get today AND Monday off?

I mean srsly.

Also, how come it seems their only job function is to say "i don't know, let me transfer you to Level 2," but when I ask them to just transfer me they won't?

And do I get paid double-time today?

Time to go close some trouble tickets.

Well I'm not working for Covad.. We just sell their xDSL products, and I need to call over to India for support.

Hi, I'm on vacation but I work for Covad (Tier 2 and heading to NOC, not outsourced yet, thank the gods). Tomorrow is an observed holiday for the entire company, but there should be a small staff there. The techs in INDIA (which we are all bitter about by the way) SHOULD be answering the phone. I'm gonna give my manager a call on your behalf to let her know that I saw someone complaining about this. THere is supposed to be staffing for today and tomorrow.

Working today and tomorrow at my company's purely voluntary.

you get a paid holiday if you don't work, and time and 1/2 if do.

That's messed up that staff in another country get's a strictly american holiday off and in-country staff don't =/

Can't say I work for Covad, although I get to work on Canada Day, and Independence Day. But I only get paid for Cananda. Obviously. But it's super annoying with that though. Thankfully I had the day off to see the shitty local fireworks.
