Dear asshat customer,

If you have a small child hanging around, do not put me on speakerphone. What a stupid idea.

Love,
Your friendly (and now hearing-impaired) tech

Speaker phones... in general... are evil.
And people think they have to use it only when calling customer service. What the hell! Just once I would like to refuse to help just because they are on a speaker phone. For now I just keep faking that I have a hard time making out anything they are saying till they give up on the speaker phone. That doesn't always work thou... *ugh*

I would use the speaker phone if I was being directed to climb behind or inside my computer to rearrange hardware configurations. Kinda hard to hold a phone to your ear (even with your shoulder) when you're elbow deep in cables.

Otherwise, yeah, use the freaking handset.

If somebody puts me on speaker phone i stop replying until they take me off speaker phone. They tend to pick up mighty quickly as they think they lost the call.

Amen

Exactly, I actually did this with a nine year old once, after half an hour on the phone trying to get the woman to right click on the "pretty blue e" on her desktop.
