Online gamers are very excitable customers.

They might even beat out day traders.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
And then there are people who bitch about
the quality of service, because their *gasp*
business is depending on it. When they are
using a residential account.

Aw, can't we afford the extra fifty bucks a
month, so we violate the Terms of Service,
then bitch about the thousands of dollars
we're losing because Residential doesn't
include guaranteed up-time. Boo-hoo.

Let's see, we can't afford an extra fifty bucks
to keep from loosing thousands. Righty-hoo.

Some days I wish I could just talk to ignorant
grandmothers. They may be slow, but at
least they're friendly.

No kidding online gamers are an excitable bunch!

I have two nephews. When they both lived at home one was a huge online gamer and the other was a huge downloader.

The downloader paid for the internet access. The gamer would through shit fits when he couldn't play games because the downloader was downloading. He's walk up and reset the computer that was downloading and crap like that.

Nevermind that at the time they couldn't get cable or DSL. Instead they had satellite. In their case (and I think most others) there's nothing you're going to do with satellite to make it good for online games outside of simple stuff. :-)

I knew a few other **BIG** online gamers as well. It was like they were denied their daily dose of crack if they couldn't get online to play.

Nothing against online gamers mind you. Only the ones who have no lives outside of Everquest. ;-) One big reason I didn't get into that type of thing. It almost seems that for you to do well in some of those games you can't have a life.

Nope it was Starband so they had satellite upload and download.

The speed was good sometimes and horrible the rest not to mention it fluctuated like crazy. There were many occasions where they would've been better off with a 28.8 modem.

If a customer has residential and a business, they are a fool. Every time I work on a "business-dependant" machine, the customer invariably shows his true colors. "Can you do this fast and cheap if not free?" Anyone not willing to invest in their own business is detined to fail, just like their e-machine.

Same goes for those with el-cheapo business service.

We provide some of the most reliable connections available. Our backbon hits five nines. We also sell unguaranteed dial, ISDN and DSL.

We have an outage, and it's always the dial, ISDN and DSL customers that scream that this is costing them millions. Funny that the real multi-billion dollar companies that buy real pipes from us (DS3's, OC3's, OC12's, OC48's) don't scream that way unless the world is ending.

Tell me about it... I still remember one night I was working in the NOC at a, ahem, large ISP... anyway, I got some guy in support who was talking about how they had a guy in the phone who wanted to get two hops to his EQ server.

Needless to say, I almost choked on my drink when they said that, and I had to then explain to the support rep how traffic works on the internet, and that in 2 hops, they wouldn't even be to our main router, and if they wanted to get there in two hops, they would have to arrange it with Sony to get a dedicated line into that server.
