Listening skills. Is it too much to ask for?

You ask a user for their last name, just their last name... and they give you:
1. their personal email address. No, FluffyKittiesFarting@wtfery.com* is not your last name.
*not a real email address

2. their username. Which doesn't include their last name.

3. their PC name (but now we're getting somewhere. While she was still scratching her head over the meaning of the "last name" business, I remoted in and pulled it off of Start).

Waiting until they day before you're going home for the summer to bring in your broken laptop expecting us to turn it around in 24 hours is NOT a smart plan.  You can either pay to have the unit shipped back to you once we're done, wait til you're back in the fall, or deal with $vendor yourself when you get home. Either way, it's not getting fixed by morning.
