Dear Users,

If you can't turn on your PC because we're in the middle of a power outtage due to too many people running heat because it's 4 degrees outside not including the windchill, with the electric company trying to figure out how to fix this epic fail, it's not our fault.

We didn't pull the plug on your PCs. See the lights? No? Because they're off? That might mean lack of power.

Please sit down, drink a martini, and relax. It'll be back on soon.

Sometimes you just never know what you're going to encounter on a user's machine... for me... it was a heart-attack.

A user shipped their laptop up from one of our out-of-state offices reporting it wouldn't boot up. So I threw it on the dock station, booted it up. It went through chkdsk and restarted... and nothing. i powered if off, restarted it, nothing. powered it off, restarted it, chkdsk... i left it alone to do other things.

eventually Windows started to load and the network login came up. Entered user's creds and turned away from the machine to grab a clipboard... and when i turned around here was their desktop:

not for the faint of heart if you have a thing about snakes... )

ok, I have a pretty heavy (but not debilitating) case of Ophidiophobia (fear of snakes), so to turn around to this... yeah... good thing my chair's on wheels...

Usually I enjoy hearing what people have to say when I have my headset muted and they think they're on hold. People can say some funny things.

But today, this luser I just had called me a retard because I pronounced her name incorrectly. I was tempted to unmute and ask her if she was aware that the call was being recorded.

Who was asking whom for help again? And for a simple task, no less?
