Two annoyances this week...

Annoyance the first (which took place yesterday, Veteran's Day):

Me: $company Technical Support. This is Kristie. How can I assist you?
Them: Are you guys working today?
Me: ...

I had to bite my tongue to keep from retorting, "Do you think I'd be here answering the phone if I weren't?"

Annoyance the second:

Me: $company Technical Support. This is Kristie. How can I assist you?
Them: I have a technical question.
Me: Alright.
Them: So, um, are you going to transfer me to a tech?
Me: I am a level 2 technical support engineer, and I'd be more than happy to answer your question.

This habit of confusing me with a receptionist wouldn't annoy me so much if it weren't something that has happened before in a variety of IT jobs.

Thank you for calling XXX Cable Company Tech Support, how can I help you?

"We had a blackout and my computer won't start. I have a black screen here. Now fix it or I'm going to disconnect all of my services. I pay you people alot of money and I expect it to be up and running."

Why do people call their ISP for computer problems. We're not going to fix it for them. Ever.

She had a Compaq. I gave her the numbers for Dell and Toshiba.
