So, i manage a network for a group of people (100+). I don't exactly have an outstanding budget, so we're pretty much running barebones hardware (1 server, several wireless access points, and a crapload of cat5). We're also all living off of the same generator power. Of course, in a perfect world, we'd have a couple different generators, and a backup just in case. But this isn't a perfect world.

So when the generator BLOWS UP, and we're waiting hours for a replacement, when someone comes up and says, "HAY, MY INTARTUBEZ DON'T WERK!" i really want nothing more than to smash their face into said generator and make sure they can see the problem for themselves.

I just wish i weren't too scrawny to pull it off.

Hi there

Hi, I was poking around reddit when I stumbled upon this community. It's nice to know that tech people can suffer together. haha!

I guess I should introduce myself. I work for a large internet company where I build websites. Fun stuff! XP Also into tons of nerdy stuff!

I already read through some of the posts that have been made. They are great and made a few pop to my mind! Will most likely be sharing them soon!

Thanks everyone and have a great day!

Some days you get the stupid, somedays it gets you...

I just spent most of the weekend trying to figure out what the hell was wrong with the home network, only to find that our Number 5 cat... had been chewing on the Cat5 cable!

I know, I know, not a customer story as such... but I'm between jobs and this was funny even if it was at my own expense. And at one point I was seriously thinking of calling for help anyway... kinda glad I didn't! Still, in my defense, it's not exactly a problem you encounter every day. [sharp pointy little teeth, which stripped insulation but didn't sever wires, causing numerous random shorts between pairs and some really f'in weird errors!] Still... *headdesk*

So, freakiest [legitimate] problem you've encountered, or dumbest mistake you've made [if you're brave enough to admit it!] ??

Huh?

Maybe I'm just not reading this right. Earlier I remoted into one of our government computers, and a warning message came up (this was the first time I ever bothered to read it because the system was loading so slowly...). It was rather long, but it finished with this line:

"Any authorized or unauthorized use of this computer system signifies consent to and compliance with $entity policies and these terms."

Maybe it is just me and I am not gettting it, but how does the "unauthorized" part even belong in this sentence? So if I were to hack into the system, it would be okay as long as I promise to comply with their policies? Okay then....
