I work tech support for a college. Excited new freshmen want their email accounts and they want them now.
While I only work at the front desk (and therefore only read the tickets and answer phones) a few hours each week, I've responded to four such queries since last Thursday.
But this one really takes the cake:
Wait...what? You downloaded Thunderbird and expect to register for your new email account through a third party client, albeit one we recommend? I'm betting that he didn't even download our own version (which has the server settings already set up).
Even better, their mailings already cover this. If they, you know, were able to READ, maybe they'd know the answer already.
These kids are basically the replacements for my class. They are not worthy!

Is it possible for incoming freshmen like myself to
set up an e-mail account at this time? I've downloaded
thunderbird, but I'm having difficulty figuring out
how to register a username and password. I've visited
the "password retrieval" site, but after entering my
last name, birth date, and school ID correctly,
had no luck. Am I able to get this going now, or do I
wait until the fall?
