Yes, we had a power outage today.

Yes, about half of the campus.

Yes, this *does* include the server room.

Yes, I know the lights just came back on.

No, you will not be able to log in yet.

Why?

Because the power came back on 30 seconds ago, and the SERVERS ARE NOT RUNNING YET!

You're getting an error message of "the domain controller cannot be found"? That's because THE SERVERS ARE NOT RUNNING YET!

Paco: "Hi, my name is Paco and I'm a higher level tech. The *potted fern* tech you were speaking with before already told me *an entire 5 minute shpiel of crap that I don't care about* about your issue. I took you off his hands because the trouble ticket you have is still open, and in order to find current status, I need to call the Maintenance Central-..."
Customer: "Let me tell you what's going on."
Paco: "That is not really necessary." *Please shut your mouth immediately.*
Customer: "*five minute whine fest.* So, how can you help me?"
Paco: "Well, like I was saying, in order to find out what's going on with your ticket, I have to call the maintenance central office. Would you like to hold or get a call back?"

Someday, I swear it, I will find a polite way to keep them from talking. Unfortunately, "Shut the hell up and stop wasting time while I try to fix this issue" is counted as bad customer service. Go figure.
