Problem1: LTO2 Tapedrive gives CRC Errors. Cleaning LED is blinking.
after cleaning the LED is OFF again, but once he puts an backup-tape in again and tries to backup, the Cleaning-LED is ON again. Customer cleaned tapedrive 3 times in a row already.

Problem2: Tape-Backup with Veritas BackupExec sometimes aborts with Timeouts. Windows Native backup works without Problems.

Problem3: DDS4 Tapedrive. Customer wants to restore last backup. Tapes are set to WRITE PROTECT so that he wont loose the data. Customer puts tape into drive but drive cant find the tape "No Media loaded"

Problem4: Voltage-Regulation-Coil beside the CPU burned down (yes. with flames and smoke and everything)
what do you replace and why?

Problem5: APC PowerChute Business Suite 6 has Problems that Services sporadically stopped or crashed. After reboot of Server, System wont start into normal mode. its possible to start into Safe-Boot-Mode!

Problem6: System Management Software shows: "Fan 7 state: Failed. 0 RPM" All Fans are equal and HotPlug-Able
Here i want an DECISION tree >:) (f.E.: if "a" then "b" else: if "c" then "d" else: if .....)

No, these are not problems on ONE location. different calls, different customers. (just to make sure this time) *G*

So I'm getting Carbon copied on this rather entertaining flame war between one of my remote sites (who is on dialup), and the office manager here (who sent most of the remote sites a flyer for an event being held at the office tomorrow. trouble is, one of the images in the email is 6 MBytes.)

I'm sitting back in my office and laughing my ass off, because I feel that the remote site is correct, AND because I'm sure I'm going to get a few work orders over the next two three weeks from a few other remote sites because this genourmous email is pretty much killing their email connection. So I'm letting the flame war go one, because I really _am_ bored.

I might forward it down south to the home office, in order to share the amusement...

EU: I can't get into my DB2 tables, it says there's a security problem.
Me: OK, let me check your mainframe account and make sure you aren't revoked. No, not revoked. Is it asking you for a password?
EU: No.
Me: Huh. That's odd. OK, let me check something else (I check a couple of other things like the server it's on, her LAN account "just in case" there's some weirdness there, everything looks fine). Well, everything looks ok. Are you sure it isn't asking you for a password?
EU: No, it isn't asking me for a password.
Me: Ok, well, it looks like you changed your mainframe password on Monday.
EU: Oh? I'm supposed to use that password?
Me: I thought you said it wasn't asking you for a password.
EU: It isn't. OK, I put in my mainframe password and that worked.
ME: ..... OK, is there anything else I can help you with today?
EU: No, thanks, bye!

Me to coworker: I *know* I was speaking English...

So my boss calls me yesterday and wants to know why a particular user can see some files that he shouldn't be able to see. Lots of miscommunication occurs until I finally figure out what he wants. Now, the network is all xp home, except for the servers (2k) and several 98 machines that are not mission critical. Anyway, come to find out that the guy before me shared out people's c drives and then just left them. No guest account password, nothing. Well, he wants to know why the info isn't secured. I do some looking into it and figure it out (xp home, no passwords for shared folders, etc). So I secure everything and put the most sensitive data on the 2k server, which is where it should have been in the first place, but don't get me started on that. Anyway, one of my more clueless users looks at me, as she tries to get this software we use to connect to the share and it asks her for a password and says, "Is it gonna do that every time I restart?"

OF COURSE! You wanted security! That's what you get with security, password prompts and extra steps!

I mean, seriously.

I also got told that they had no problems with it before I worked there. Apparently, my predecessor was some kind of fucking genius or something and knew how to do everything (NOT! he's the one that made those shares in the first place, I'm sure, or told clueless fuck how to). Anyway, do you guys (and gals!) ever get compared to someone that worked there before you, or are you blissfully unaware of your previous employee's endeavors?

Where's my LART when I need it?
