Feel free to join either [livejournal.com profile] amish_online or [livejournal.com profile] nitwits. The Former is for discussion of blunt edge software and hardware, with a very slight emphasis on integration with current crap. The latter is for friends and/or foes of the Microsoft Operating system which began life a "Windows NT", but include Windows 2000, and Windows XP, along with Longhorn and other future releases based on Bill Cutler's work of art. Bitch, whine, advocate, diss, thrash, whatever.

Not much in them yet, and hardly anyone seems to have even noticed them, so whore I must.

Carrott: I just posted in [livejournal.com profile] amish_online about a laptop which was thrust into my hands last night. Enjoy plz.

We'll never be free of e-mail SPAM. Never. Not as long as there are average end users like ours.

Scenario: Users are ostensibly behind a secure firewall, but still get "In:creas:e y0ur pen1s si:ze" e-mails, etc. Almost without fail, they forward these messages directly to our HelpDesk mailbox.

We then send a standard reply instructing them to save the message as a .msg file, then attach that file to a new message, then send it back to us. We even include a Word doc with screenshots of the process, and explain that it's necessary to do this so that complete header information can be examined.

This is too much information for them. They a) forward it again, b) send the wrong type of file, c) seemingly ignore the instructions and forward a new SPAM message, d) write back and complain that it's too complicated...

Ending SPAM in our lifetime? Not with these recipients.

My monitor is a piece of crap. Can I have a new one?

Forsooth, this monitoring bright device
From which the light of far and distant lands
Commingles thereupon with figures bright
Reduced to photons viewed through clearest sand

Full many years has signal passed through glass
Until, with nature's slow and sure decay
The figures once so clear and pure of line
Have quietly begun to fade away.

Solutions to this problem come to mind:
Should one remove the monitor and drop
Upon the concrete this quite fragile case?
Or patiently wait for sight to stop?

I call upon the Techs to see this grue,
Have pity, and to bring me one anew.

I'll let you know what the result is.

Not just porn. Not just animated porn. No, animated Flinstones porn. As a background.

Why do I always get the computers owned by sick, sick bastards?

Me: Good afternoon, $company, this is Sarah, how can I help you?

Them: Do you sell hard drives?

Me: Sure. How big a drive are you looking for?

Them: Uh... ... ... ...XP.

Me: ....er. No, sir, that's your operating system. Your hard drive is--

Them: Oh! Okay! I know! .......Packard Bell!

Me: ...nooooo, that's the computer.

Long story short, we determined that there was no way in Hell this computer could be sufficiently upgraded to run WinXP. Customer thanked me, hung up.

Ten minutes later...

Phone: *ring*

Me: Good afternoon, $company, this is Sarah, how can I help you?

Them: Do you sell hard drives?

Me: ...didn't I just talk to you? Packard Bell?

Them: ..........uh. Heh heh. Yeah.

I couldn't for the life of me remember the password to my webspace, so it took me some time to create a quick webspace on some random free server. So here, for the morbidly curious is the link to the animated Flinstones porn previously mentioned. I absolutely refuse to actually post the picture itself. ;)
Need I say Not Work Safe? Probably not. And don't blame me for any retinal burns.

*edit*
Okay, in process of fixing. Please hold.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] malgrep, the picture can be found here.
