Here's a snippet of conversation with a faculty member. First some background. About 5 or 6 years ago, the college bought all the full-time faculty members laptops. OK, that's all you need to know.
Me: Helpdesk, this is,
doctoreonHer: I need some help remembering my password to my laptop, I haven't used it since I first got it at the training session.
Me: "You haven't used your laptop since the initial training session?"
Her: "It was really too heavy for my tastes to be carrying around."
Me: "..." (wtf? It's a laptop - a free goddamn laptop, lady!!)
Her: "...and my desk space here at home really wasn't deep enough to use it here..."
Me: "..." (*boggles* Again, it's a laptop...how deep of a desk do you need?)
Her: "...but I just cleaned up a little so I thought I'd get it out."
I really have no words. A couple thousand dollars of tax payer money wasted on her because "it was really too heavy for her tastes." I'm so sorry to put you out. So sorry to strain you. I didn't know that the incredible gift of free computing would be such a burden to you.
Ok, I guess I had a couple words.
