Customer brings in Gateway with CD-ROM drive removed.

"What's wrong with this one?" Boss asks.

Customer shakes CD-ROM drive.

Apparently, a CD disintegrated in the drive. We opened it up and fished out the bits just for the hell of it--no way were we putting that drive back in the machine. It appears that not all of the CD is there.

I'm not sure I want to know how this happened.

Hi all. I just joined your lovely little community. Thought I'd introduce myself with a story:

In corporate tech support (where I work), there is what I like to call the LTB ("last touched by") rule. Basically, if you are the last tech to work on a computer, then anything and everything that goes wrong with it after that it is entirely your fault... even months later.

Example: I installed a memory upgrade on a user's pc. I got this call the next day:

User: "You installed some memory in my computer yesterday, and now I'm missing data from Excel."
Me: "You're missing a spreadsheet?"
User: "No, I have my spreadsheet. But some of the data I entered on it last week is missing."

Obviously, the data was on the DIMM I replaced.
