we installed a gateway virus scanner at work this week. Monday, to be specific. turned it on at 3PM. right in the middle of the work day.

it ran for a couple of days without incident. an email was sent out in the morning saying that we have installed it. suddenly people were having all sorts of email problems which just had to be related. even though it was running for 2 days prior and noone knew about it.

blah. this is why i never ever ever want to *tell* people when we do anything. nothing breaks or causes problems until people know it's there. once someone has something to point at, it's all down hill...

so i am new here, and thought i'd introduce myself : )
i'm Yulia, and i do tech support for a small software company in MA and have also worked for an ISP in the past. for the most part, our customers are nice and easy to deal with... but on some days, it feels like the average IQ of people who, in theory, are hired to do computer work, had plummeted and only the low end of the spectrum made it into the offices of our clients. nofun.

and here are, as promised by the subject line, some noteable comments by a customer who's been plaguing me the past few days.
(background: as a part of our services, we host web forms for some of our clients; this lady is one of those, and has asked me to repost and/or fix her form over 5 times now. at one point (and 7pm, 2 hours after closing time) a background file had gotten corrupted and her form was giving an error message. her email ended with this wonderful line:)
"You are getting into so much trouble now if this won't be fixed now."

think she's threatening a spanking here?
the next day, after the initial problem was fixed, she realized the form needed a reposting. this is part of the email asking for such
"There are a few things I need to ask:
1) Could you doublecheck "..." and "... "( I did correct in the scripts
(actually, no... she doesn't have access to any scripts)). Or anything else, etc. I have been very helpful on this."

and

Could you make sure (my company) server is running okay for the next few days? It is very critical for us. We can't contact them twice. I got so many angry messages today between 5 and 7 p.m. This could give (her company) lots of troubles. SO Please make sure the server is running okay.

...after the spanking she was threatening, you can imagine how endearing that was. and i think it takes a tech to derive humor from her second statement...
...and she also asked for my 'personal number' so that if something went wrong, she could catch me off hours. *shakes head*

and then the last is
I will send a new one soon. Could you wait a few minutes?
after i told her of some problems she needs to correct.
'actually, no, i won't wait. i will sit here and do all the other things your incompetency has been preventing me from doing'

and yeah, i know in the grand scheme of things this lady isn't that bad... i think the problem with her is more that she won't go away.

but hopefully you guys got a giggle or two : )
