I got the cutest little stupid today - an instructor wanted to know if Outlook was COMPUTER based or PORT based.

So she could take her laptop across campus and still get her email.

B) Dollars to donuts she tried plugging in her laptop to an inactive ethernet port at some point.
C) We have college-wide wireless now, we indeed have joined the '00s. It's not an admin connection but she wouldn't have that anyway.

good God I hate Banner. I never had to use and I still hate it. I got to see it demoed, and all the execs were like "this is the greatest software ever!" while I was sitting there thinking "Students are going to fucking hate this!"

Even better, we have the portal software from SCT stuck on top of it~! It's awesome only not.

The icon came about from a gig in Enrollment when, because Banner is stupid, we had to hand enter EVERY SINGLE COMMUNITY ED STUDENT WHO REGISTERED ONLINE. It worked fine for credit students, but after entering 1000+ non-credit add/drops, Banner can DIAF. That's not mentioning its habit of going down when we need it the most - generally if it's first day of reg or first week of term, you can count on Banner and the portal being SOL.

We haven't found it that bad. Reliability-wise, anyway. Their portal isn't great, particularly if you let students use it to change their address online. (Word of warning: don't. We had to rewrite it to stop students having 26+ addresses because they got confused.)

(<-particularly hates when lusers decide to use tech-language in the belief that it makes them sound smarter, and hates even more that it does sometimes make them sound smarter to people even less clueful than they are. ... Except at my place of employment (a university), the phone number is tied to the phone, not the port. Port Security pitches a fit if you move offices without informing IT first, but that's not the same thing.
