"I plugged it into my charger, walked away, and then I heard it explode."
At least he's trying ... a little bit ... with his story.

I really felt like saying "Look, I understand that this is the biggest piece of shit phone made in the past few years, but I know they don't spontaneously explode."

If he'd just plugged it in, it could have been the battery.

While the battery could have gone, usually, if a Li-Ion is going to "vent," it'll "vent with flame."

I'd say this looks an awful lot like an impact to the screen.

I've got a Palm Pre and a iPod Touch, and I really like the Palm's WebOS compared to the iPod/iPhone OS, and I'll use the Pre in preference to the Touch for most things. Too bad the Sprint network sucks donkey dicks, and too bad the battery life is less than stellar.

Funny thing is, Sprint's wonderful where I am. I've had no problems. I even tend to keep my coverage most of the way across the bay where I used to lose AT&T all the time.

My husband has a Pixi. Similar interface to the Pre and I want it so bad :P

I've been with Sprint for 10 years and they've been no better or worse than any other major carrier in my experience.

Only problem I have with them is that on my side of the building, I can't get PCS Network (my office is on a subfloor), though, at the rear of the building I do.

Annoying, but not life ending. I just roam for free on Verizon and it makes no difference in quality in the end.

Not a fan of fancy phones either. I've had my RAZR for like, 4 years now (And it was OLD when I first bought it). Works perfectly fine for my needs and the battery life is great.

I love my pre for the most part, but battery/charging issues have been a continuous problem for me.

I too am a Pre fan, and other than it sucks down juice like it's going out of style, it's a very versatile and highly moddable phone (since it's a Linux backend). I don't have too much trouble with their network (upstate NY), although there are times when it seems like it can't pick up a signal in various reasonably populated places (such as northern NJ).

too bad HP (after buying Palm) just said they were not in the phone business...

I think it would make an awesome tablet. And then my wife, who just got an iPad, would be all like "how come I've got to use the iPad, why can't I use the Slate?" and I'd be all like "you never let me use the iPad, why should I let you use the Slate?" And then we'd have awesome make-up sex. And while I'm dreaming, I'd like a million dollars too.

... Yeah, that looks like a screen impact to my mostly trained eye.

I would also agree, looks like it's about 1/4" up and 3/4" to the left of the lower right corner.

The battery is halfway up the back of the phone. Given where the damage is makes it seem even more improbable. Besides, if that actually legitimately happened Precentral would be all over it like a cheap (law)suit.

See, now, if it DID spontaneously explode, that would raise the cool factor some. 'Cause, the thought that it might suddenly go "boom" in your pocket might force some people to do slightly less stupid things for fear of jostling it.

Ok, it would be cool to me. Because I don't actually own one and I just want to hear (other) people randomly go "boom".
