SIR: Well, looks like I'm making a trip to Best Buy for a new router.

ME: (little gasp)

SIR: What? You don't like Best Buy?

ME: Well, it's been my experience that they rarely are. I'd point you to some Consumerist articles, but I know you can't get online.

SIR: What would you suggest?

ME: You got a Fry's* up there?

SIR: Fry's? You must be in Rhode Island.

ME: They have a Fry's in Rhode Island?

SIR: I don't know; I've never been there.

And.....scene.

*Yes, I know a trip to Fry's usually equals another trip to Fry's, but if you just ignore the salespeople and know what you want, it's less expensive in the long run.

I don't have one in Salt Lake City either. I think my closest one is in Vegas. *cries*

There are no Fry's in New England, anywhere.

Nor are there any in the midatlantic. I've never come across one in all my east-coast travels, from Virginia to Maine. Including RI.

See, you didn't go down far enough. We have a Fry's in Georgia.

Fry's is totally non-existent in Australia.

Instead, we have dodgy places like Capitol Square (http://www.capitolsquare.com.au/html/computers.html) which is run by Asians who love to haggle.

I'm not sure if this is an improvement.

Baltimore's getting an Hhgregg, though...so at least we're not totally limited to JUST Worst Buy...

Yeah, given that Best Buy is pretty much the only choice I got here in Richmond VA., I can't afford to be choosy about it. At least Circuit City offered AN option, least ways 'til the HHGregg opens. The nearest Fry's to me is in Atlanta, about 8 hours away.

(And don't think I don't have a "Goin' to Fry's" piggy bank ready for each trip. ^_^)

HHGregg is appliance/electronics? With a name like that I thought they were a clothing store or something.

one of them is opening up here (Mechanicsburg, PA) where Circuit Shitty used to be.

I can ignore the Blue Shirts in Worst Buy too. but that doesn't do anything about the horrid prices.

29.99 for a freaking SATA cable.

But that is only if you're not old enough to remember when Fort Worth was ACF on the commercial aviation field list. (And yeah, I know Meacham continued to use FTW, but that was general aviation, not commercial.)

It's hard to ignore the convenience of a Beast Buy less than 2 miles from my house in Reston, VA. However, when I want to get serious about computer shopping, its off to the Micro Center in Fairfax.

Two of them in the Vally of the Sun (Phoenix and Tempe); Amusingly enough, we also have a food store chain called the same name. (they are owned by Kroger)

I've not visited it (nor do I expect I ever will), but the first Best Buy store in the UK has just opened, and so far they're looking pretty consumer-friendly in comparison to the DSGi shops (Currys and PC World), both of which tend to favour extortionate prices and incompetent sales advice over genuine customer satisfaction...

It's actually three depending on how far you go. One in Houston, one in South Houston and one in Webster.

Best Buy in the UK is the Carphone Warehouse, who've been trying to push beyond mobile phones for a while but obviously had problems with their name, which has seemed archaic for years already.

The most fun part of bestbuy was that you can't buy a simple extensioncord at their stores.

They have a 2 feet 6 outlets thingy which is nice, but not even a simple 10 feet extensioncord at a place that sells tv's and stereos?
