As most of you know, earlier this year I sold my soul to Satan and went to work for Microsoft.

Today was hell.

Some little good for nothing fucker has released another virus, much like the Blaster worm. I swear if I ever meet anyone who claims responsibility for any of these I'm going to tear them limb from limb with my bare hands.

For those of you dealing with the virus, here are some links for your clients or yourselves.

http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/sasser.asp and see if you're infected. If you're running a firewall and are up to date on your critical updates, you should be fine.

But wait, there is more

Some little good for nothing fucker who thinks they can code has left another vulnerability open in a WinDoz product. I swear if I ever meet anyone who claims responsibility for any of these I'm going to tear them limb from limb with my bare hands.

It might help if Mr. Gates and crew made a product less vulnerable to even the most rudimentary of hacks. I mean REALLY! How lame does the product have to be that a 14 year old script-kiddie can cripple an entire network or wreak havock on global systems as an after school prank?

I don't support those that release the virus. Since the company I IT for is a Microsoft shop it is a pain when these worms are released. But an even bigger pain is having to go through dozens of servers and hundreds of work stations to make sure they are all updated with patches M$ finally got around to releasing after ignoring the exploits for so long.

Oh, that sounds like you did have a terrible day! My company is a MS shop, so I imagine we'll have a really fun week.

Are you working for Microsoft at WebHelp? I probably don't know you, but I know a lot of the WebHelp folks in Montreal.

See my post about it on Saturday?

It hit us pretty hard that day.
Got my machine too. Luckily I'd isolated the fucker at home before I got to work, warned my reps and we were on top of it.

I'd worked out how to stop it, then eventually we had references for it.

I'm not looking forward to going to work tomorrow. Luckily I don't have to speak to the customers front line. Heh.

I work on a college campus for the IT tech dept, tomorrow is going to be fun. i already heard alot of students are having problems with the new virus. weird thing about though my boyfriend got it.. and i put a firewall on the machine and did the update. It seem to not have the shutdown problem with lsass file anymore. However i couldn't find the virus anywhere to take it off. I ran stinger and everything... Good luck to everyone...

Same here. We don't seem to have any problems until those rez punks plug into the network :D

Yeah, the first thing I did when I came in to work this morning was go around and make sure everyone had done their Windows Updates. The sad part is, I actually had people say "No, what's that?" or "Uh, no, why? Do I need to?"

This is after countless emails about the subject from me, my supervisor, and the district support person on that very subject.

Thanks for the links though. I'll be sure to use them when it pops up here.

We seemed to have steered clear today.. let's hope the rest of the week goes as smoothly.

SUS took care of the workstations and we took care of the servers on the weekend. Our IDS has yet to catch Sasser on our network.

Thank you

I'm not sure anyone told you yet, but thank you. If it weren't for your post, I would have never known about the virus. I don't watch TV that much, and well, I've been trying to stay away from my computer as much as possible. But, you gave me exactly what I needed to fix someone's computer.
Thank you.
