You know, I really love when I go from office to office and people seem to think that I not only support their networks and systems in their office, but I'm also THE copy machine repairman, the electrician, I can fix their billing problems they screwed up, I can unlock files that THEY locked up, I can get them a new computer, printer, or monitor out of thin air, and one of MY personal favorites, they seem to think they can commission me to fix THEIR personal pcs at home for nothing. Pffft!

I had someone call me today asking if we could fix/replace their presentation screen. Not a monitor, not a flat panel, but the kind that hangs on the wall and rolls up when you're done. Oh, and she wanted us to make a copy of a VHS tape while we were at it. The sad thing is that I told her to contact marketing, and she said they'd directed her to IS in the first place. *facepalms*

Because at my last job we did support photocopiers - don't ask me why. For simple stuff, anyway, like jams. And nine out of ten a photocopier screwed up it was because some brain surgeon had put paper on the part of the tray that said 'do not put paper here'. I swear, we should be allowed to carry cattle prods.

Oh yeah ! I had that too.

It was funny because I had actually come in late that day. Someone blew a fuse with an electric heater. They were waiting for me to come in to fix their power.

I told them at that point that they have to talk to the building manager (I have no keys to the room where the circuit breaker is, only the building manager does). What's the response? "Oh . . . I thought it was that way but I wasn't sure" *sigh*

I've got an instructor who likes to bring in her personal laptop (read: not one damn piece of software that we support - including the OS) and have me load programs, fix problems, and install Windows Critical Updates and antivirus updates (apparently she can't figure out how to do this at home). I finally convinced her to take it back to Best Buy or wherever she bought it because I wasn't about to reinstall Windows for her for free.

She's retiring at the end of June! Small miracles.
