I'm sure many of you have already learned this lesson but for any who may not have, here it is:

Don't explain things to sales people, just tell them what to order.

Dear sales people,

I told you we need a display port to vga adapter because only one came with the computer and the user has two monitors. I then went on to explain that the other two cables were useless because one was a display port to dvi-d (the user only has VGA monitors, can't convert dvi-d) and the other was a DMS-59 to dual DVI-i (the dvi looking connector that is for splitting into two, of which there was none on the computer and even if there had been no dvi-vga converter was present). However, this explanation was only an attempt to inform you of what went wrong so that it can be avoided in the future.

If I tell you that "we need X because Y was wrong" DO NOT ASK IF Y IS THE CORRECT THING TO ORDER!!

No love,
Me

:( Some people...

What's worse is when you have to order something and don't have a part number or an exact description.

I told a Hell sales person I needed a VESA adapter plate for my monitor stand. After trying to sell me a power adapter, a battery, a PS/2-USB adapter, and the monitor stand itself, the rep finally found what I was looking for. :/

Or if you go out of your way to try to dig up the part number to make things easier on the dolts but various representatives gave you the wrong information and you find this out only after the parts arrive.

Though I did run just run into your situation where I asked for a quote on a docking station with dual VGA support and the rep was unable to find it. My manager wound up digging up the right part on a separate vendor's site while I was out sick. Saw the message trail on my blackberry and I swear my headache at the time doubled from the fail of it all.
