Oh hi there, Mr. "You Dread Seeing My Name in Your Ticket Queue Because Your Great-Grandmother Has More Computer Savvy Than I Do".

You're going to be out of the office - and the state - for two weeks. You've known about this trip for over two months. You're taking your work laptop with you, and would like to be able to access your email via VPN while you're gone. This is very reasonable; tell me again why you're telling me, since every computer is set up to use VPN and you have a remote password and everything?

What's that? You're ALREADY gone, and you just submitted a ticket saying that you can't connect, that your wireless is asking you for stuff you don't understand, and you've NEVER been able to connect via wireless on your machine?

Aaaaaaaaand ... you didn't think to tell the tech this BEFORE you left on your two week business trip? Really?

No, I will NOT take a trip to Missouri to fix your damn laptop. Maybe next time you'll think to let me know this stuff before you leave.

I had a ticket like that a few weeks ago. Nice enough guy, but he didn't even think to test his connection before he flew 5000 miles. Then was annoyed that it wouldn't work. *sigh*

At least he admitted in the end that he should have tested it before leaving.

Hotel? Tell him he needs a hardwired connection, then use a trial GoToMyPC account to remote in and fix it.
