Looks typical for something that would be used to adjust small potentiometers, especially on a live circuit board. I'd rather use that than something with a smooth round handle that you might not be able to grip.

Yeah, I had to pause when I was reading the instructions. Here I was always thinking mute was a binary system.

It's basically for limiting interference on a wireless microphone receiver.
