It's Tuesday. I've taken three (3) calls so far this week where users have managed to rotate their displays. Not their monitors, as most of them are on laptops. The actual picture is turned sideways or upside down. One users's excuse was 'I was in the Processes tab in the Task Manger and I just cilcked something randomly because my IE was frozen and now my screen is wierd!'. Hand to God.

I just- I don't know. What do you say to that? Unfortunately, slamming the phone against the desk until they hang up is not the correct response.

Yet.

Lemme guess, the old "Ctrl-Arrow" trick on Intel drivers.

I actually love that one. I just lean over and ctrl-arrow, and then they think I'm a genius. (And sometimes bring cookies!)

I'd not seen that in two years in a building of a few thousand people. We switched to Vista and suddenly its 8 or 9 incidents a day, alternating 50/50 with "argh the computer is writing Chinese characters at me!"

Resolution: Suggest user learns to read and write Chinese. It can't be that hard, it's the standard written language for about 1 billion people.

I haven't had that one yet, but we do get a lot of people fat fingering commands which leads to the paragraph symbol showing up in MS Word.

You're telling me. The last company I worked at we had probably 20 of those on April Fools Day. And the stupid help desk escalated every one to the network team rather then help.

I got the one who goes 'See? The screen is all weird colours and stretched and upside-down!' when I remoted in and said 'Actually, it looks okay on my screen but I can...' only to have them interrupt, go ballistic, call me names, incompetent and demand to be escalated to second line nownownow.

So I did.

And they had to wait 48 hours for a second line tech to call them, remote in and rotate the screen and change the display settings back to normal.

But that's not even a network issue!

While I know that must have been annoying and frustrating for probably both of you, I find the image hysterically funny. PING! :D
