It's sort of the off season for us techs working at universities. Traffic is slower and I get to monkey around with code uninterrupted for longer periods of time. That said this was sent to me a little while back and I think we all wanted to do this at some point.





I think I'm going to make myself one when I have some time this summer.

Off-season? It's silly season where I am, as we approach the end of the fiscal year and everyone's* spending like mad while they can!

* Those who didn't have their budgets ræped this year, at least.

mercifully we specifically only support classrooms and as the winter session has ended we have a week or two of slack before the spring session starts. Our accountant is going a little mad nonetheless.

I don't really mind the stupid questions; the problem is when they don't understand/accept/believe the answer/keep asking the same question over and over until the answer magically transforms into the one they want to hear, which it never does, so they keep asking...

I also work tech support for a major university. Next week is dead week (aka, the week before finals), so we're going to be plagued by "I didn't save my word document and closed it and it was 234982039482 pages, can you get it back?" "No, have a nice day."

Put up a banner saying "No, we cannot help you if you did not save your work" over the main desk. Point to it a lot.

If you're feeling really nice, maybe have a brochure called "How to make sure it doesn't happen again - basic backup procedures and application settings."
