I just had a user fall apart on me.

It bothers me to hear a grown man whine. It bothers me more to know that he handles other people's money. But then to hear him go completely to pieces because "there's all this stuff on the screen. What is this? I don't know what this is! Why is this here? What's going on?" just drives me to drink. I got a headache from trying to calm a man down because he was panicking.

And his problem? His bookmark menu was on the left-hand side of his IE screen. But really, his real problem was he's decided to be helpless.

But it's on the LEFT SIIIIIIIIIIDEEEEEEEEEE! How do you not understand the severity of the situation!?

I just want to have my own business, where in the user agreement they agree to corporal punishment if they act like morons.

Verily.

Humor aside though, I've had that exact call. You really wonder how some people get to adulthood without being weened of the "But I WAAAANT ITTTT!" reflex...

While troubleshooting a profile issue, a user mentioned 'the directory at the side of her Internet' was gone. Being the idiot I am, I helpfully explained that those were called Favourites, or Bookmarks.

Her response was that she didn't need to learn that sort of complicated stuff, because isn't that what the IT dept is FOR? She threw a complete fit about my misguided attempt to educate her on the most basic user-level terminology...

"No ma'am, that's what kindergarten is for. The IT department only deals with repairs, not training you on things every six-year-old knows by now."

Priceless! I love the "Install More Spyware" button.

Thanks, I hadn't seen the new one.

They get funnier the more that I watch them. Like, I had to try a couple times before I noticed one of the spyware popups is an ad for their own company.
