RE: Your Fucking Stupid Cases

To the Engineering Fuckwad in the R&D Department from a Few Years Ago:

A clamshell case was a bad idea from the drawing board. Why would you have big moving parts around tons of wires and sensitive components? Oh yeah, so more stuff breaks when the box is being serviced. The cases NEVER close properly and your power supply's wires are always in the way, causing me to spend time dressing cables that YOU should have.

Take Mr. Engineer outside and put a bullet in his head. If you do this, I **MIGHT** consider buying one of your POS machines next time.

....OK well probably not, but, I don't feel bad lying to you.

Thank you for your compliance in this critical matter.

Sincerely,
sgt_easton

Over half of my workstations are of this style of case. I hate them so much! The models before and the models after this series are much better. Maybe someone DID execute that particular engineer. Or at least we can hope they did. =^.^=

I'm SO glad our old GX280's are disappearing. We've mostly got the GX6xx-7xx now, but there's still the couple clamshells out there...

I have a feeling that the only reason they deviated from the clamshell format was because they switched to BTX and had to redesign the chassis anyway.
That, and they were just painfully hideous in the first place.

Amen, preach it...

For what it's worth, the GX280 was the last of the clamshells (as far as I know). And those are dropping like flies around here along with the GX270s. Seems the power supplies suffer from the same capacitor malady that the GX270 motherboards had.

Luckily, GX270 power supplies are pretty readily available on eBay.

The new cases are vastly improved. The Opti 620 needed slight improvement, but the 760s are pretty nicely built.

Also:

Dear Dell, about those motherfucking stupid 80-degrees-from-horizontal-upward-facing front USB ports you put on those machines. Who the fuck told you that was a good idea, and what the hell had you been smoking that you believed it? SERIOUSLY! It's almost impossible to get even one USB device - much less for christ's sake TWO - in those, even if you have the machine on a workbench and you can rotate it like a fucking Tetris piece looking for a good angle of attack.

I hope you die in a Charlie fire,

jimbojones

I used to have to put network cards in Compaqs that purchasing bought REALLY cheap

we found out WHY when they arrived

you had to take the RISER off the mb to be able to mount ANY card and then SHOVE it back in

the entire tech dept hated those things. And we made sure purchasing got them!
