Is it just me or does anyone else want to slap the user that makes their poor admin assistant call in for their computer problem. How are we supposed to help fix anything if you have someone else call in? It makes me wonder if they make that poor admin call in their doctors appointments and car problems too.

I used to work at a medium-sized finance company. The admins did EVERYTHING for their bosses. Business appointments, dentists, doctors, cars, home maintenance, spouse gifts...

I've wanted my own PA ever since
(no, the Personal Assistant kind of PA)

Yeah, I've known a couple of people who were admin assistants. I lived with one, and I heard some stories. The level of babysitting that they have to do is mind-boggling. I've ever since been under the impression that many executives don't know how to do much of anything, and I can't fathom how they manage to do their own jobs.

I always tell the admin assistants to put their boss on the line. I don't care if it's the president of the college.

calls me to have me call or visit my GM.

Hey, he signs the paychecks, I guess that means I play the songs he wants to hear.

Oh I don't know. I was gearing up to call back a computer illiterate and talk him through uninstalling something that was either graphics card software for a machine he didn't have, or malware when I got a call from him. He'd got his IT chap there. So, rather than spending ages on that callback I just gave him two filenames and let him sort it out. The fewer customers I have to talk through registry changes the better, frankly.

I'm *technically* an admin assistant (former tech support wench) and my boss does that to me all the time, but I don't really mind.

It's better than him calling up tech support and go, "Uh, [Citrix-based program] doesn't work, you didn't download all the right codes...specs...thingies to it." He usually annoys the techs and I have to translate for him anyways!

I've trained him to talk to me FIRST if he's having a problem, THEN them. Though, that does mean I get a few calls on my days off that go like this:
"How do I make the pictures for the caskets thingie to get bigger?"
"*sigh* F11, boss."

"I can't get emails on my iPhone."
"You just changed your password."

"Why am I getting this message that my inbox is full?"
"...because you have too many emails?"

And so on. But he's a pretty cool boss (hey, I get to flip him off and I don't get fired!)

I work in a pharmacy, and they have their admin assistants call in their refills all the time. I doubt it's much different for MD appointments.
