PROBLEM: The thing is not working.

SOLUTION: The thing falls outside our support boundaries. Suggested calling thing support.

Like faith, but more amusing.

Please tell me that this was actually the solution on the trouble ticket. I don't care if it really was, but there are certain things I have a deep-seated need to believe.

And beautifully answered, too.

After getting a number of these at one job, I took to keeping a list of the 101 corporate contact teams for various things which could break, along with their contact numbers and internal email addresses, and sending it back to the emailer with a note saying, effectively, "Pick one."

Looks like one of my old trouble tickets at my first tech job.

I hate it when I get stuff like these.

Especially when it's on the phone and you say, "What thing's not working, and how is it not working?"

"The THING isn't WORKING," they always seem to respond, as if that should be all the information you would need if you weren't a complete idiot.

That reminds me of my Jr. High Electronics class (1987)... the teacher instructed the whole semester by describing things as 'thingys' and 'do-dads'.

I wish I was being humorous. That class was the worst example of public education.

If your thing is not working, you should see your doctor.

My favorite is: "It won't come up."

This is why every ticket system needs a status "Needs clarification; send back to previous owner."
