Greatest Support site ever!

(This is for all those people that find it more convenient to bother you with their question rather than Google it for themselves.)

1. Go to the site, http://www.letmegooglethatforyou.com
2. Enter your question in the test box.
3. Click the Google Search button.
4. Copy the provided address and email to the dufus asking you the question instead of looking themselves.
5. Laugh maniacally at your genius at providing the best support Google can provide!

Both achieve the goal of telling the person that you think they're a fsck'ing moron for not going to google and doing the search themselves.

Where they differ is that jfgi stops there, and lmgtfy lets you tell them they're a moron *AND* answer their question.

JFGI will leave them feeling insulted and angry, and will likely drive them to complain to HR about you. lmgtfy ... probably not so much.

I'd be more inclined to use lmgtfy by default, and if someone just won't get it through their thick skulls that google exists for a reason, well... then I'd move to JFGI

I take it you haven't seen the info page (http://www.justfuckinggoogleit.com/info.html)*.

Two useful points on that site:

# There are a total of four names for this site: www.justfuckinggoogleit.com, www.fuckinggoogleit.com, and the two variants without www. Use whichever you like.

# Using http://www.justfuckinggoogleit.com/search.pl?query=foo+bar will show this page and then redirect users to the Google page for searching on "foo bar", as will many other variants on that idea.

*Of course if I was being facetious I'd use either http://tinyurl.com/7p5slq or http://tinyurl.com/8b2z72 to link it

I hadn't, but that doesn't change my preference.

See, even when you're answering an idiot's question, swearing at 'em is not generally considered polite.

Ah, excellent--and with any luck, your users will learn to take the hint, do their own research and support, and quite legitimately request you should be let go because you don't actually do anything for them.

Granted, there's a lot of stupid questions asked, and when they aren't related to your job in the first place, I'm all for the ridicule. But as far as the job-related ones, go--people ask a perceived 'expert' on a subject because they're (mostly) guaranteed of a quick and *accurate* answer, as opposed to doing the web-search themselves...and finding incomplete or possibly even *wrong* information because they don't know what to filter out. (Mind you, there's the ones who know enough to do the filtering, and are just asking you because they're lazy, but I digress.)

And imagine this if you will--"This site I found on Google told me the way to make my machine more efficient was to turn off the antivirus and then visit VirusLaden.com! Well, gee, maybe if you'd answered my question in the first place, this wouldn't have happened..."
If you like, consider yourself a living firewall, shielding your clue-lacking users from the vast pool of stupidity and misinformation that is the internet...

Unfortunately, my bosses expect me to be nice to my customers when I'm on the clock.

However, I have been known to pass a letmegooglethatforyou link to a friend or two that I know are damn well capable of figuring out how to google something but were too lazy and just asked me instead. Mostly because I hate working when I'm not at work.
