Our network is locked down rather tight in regards to web browsing, too many people took it for granted, work stats suffered etc so it was locked down.

Me: IT this is Gotty.
User: I need to do my dangerous goods test and clearance test but I can't do it, it tells me to call you.
Me: Ok, what is the website you are trying to get to?
User: Yeh, I can't get to it. It doesn't work. I don't know.
Me: Ok, can you get to google?
User: It doesn't work!
Me: So are there any pages you can get to?
User: The home page, but nothing else works! (This site is outside of our network)
Me: Ok, I need you to send support an email with the web sites you need to access, we can then grant you that access.
User: But I don't have a computer at home and I don't have the details but they're not working.
Me: Thats ok, we just need you to email us tonight with the details of where you need to get to, we can then make sure the sites work and then you can do the tests.
User: So I could do the test tonight?
Me: No, it would be tomorrow but if you email us tonight we will have the information first thing in the morning and set it up for you.
User: Oh.. okay... Thanks..
Me: You're welcome, bye!

I should have mentioned I even told him to email from the work email account.

I think I will check the system before bed to see if that email does come through. If not I will have a chat to the manager and ask them to hire more clicked on people.

Nah, its just that its locked down tighter than a virgin in a chastity belt so we have to add legit sites to a whitelist and we don't often find out that they need something until we get these calls.

I've had calls about this same issue before. Not that the network was locked down, but that the user could not access "the internet" and further prompts to find out exactly what was wrong resulted in him telling me that he couldn't do anything at all and everything was broken, when in reality, he had just lost connection to the wireless router. I hate it when lusers tend to react as if it's the end of the world and all that jazz.
