Date: 2008-10-06 09:37 pm (UTC)I patiently explained to him that saving a relatively small amount of money by buying a laptop that's most likely stolen, and on which he'd never be able to get manufacturer technical support or hardware repair on, was a dumb idea. And miracle of miracles, he actually listened to me, and bought a new laptop direct from Dell instead... (I wouldn't so much mind being the family's "free unlimited tech support dweeb", if they'd actually pay attention to what I tell them when they ask me something - usually, if the answer isn't what they want to hear, they don't....)
