Another late night "emergency call" from a "client" (we are re-branding and I was told Friday that they aren't customers anymore).  In any event, our after hours tier 1 folks just called me up with an urgent ticket - the user accidentally poured a beer on the Cisco ASA that is at their office.  Now, I'm not normally one to really ask "how did that happen" since I see shit all day long; BUT, Saturday, 11:55pm EST and you are in the networking closet at your realty firm drinking beer high enough in the air to pour it on the ASA?  WTF? Perhaps you are the anti-christ of networking engineers everywhere - because, really, it takes either a) a violation of physics to pour up, b) you were on a ladder and dumped your beer down.  Either way I don't know what to say other than I'll call Cisco TAC and have you a new ASA shipped Sunday Red for like $1000 from Bangalore.

I am just waiting for the call that someone accidentally detonated a bomb in their network closet or something.  They get worse and worse.

Closing thoughts:  "If you idiot-proof something, they will just build a better idiot"

"Of course we hold all our Friday happy hours in the networking closet, why do you ask?"

I'm going with shotgunning a beer that misfired.

I did hear about case where the janitor left his trolley, complete with a those large industrial sized aerosols of polish, air spray etc.. in the network room over a labour day weekend. Rumour has it, that whatever they were leaning against, they got hot enough explode and took out everything else in the room..

I did also hear about a collage network hub that got taken out when a small fire in the metalwork room in the floor below caused a gas cylinder to explode up through the floor.

Never yet heard of any accidental bombings though...anyone in the military side know better?

At my first tech job they had a wiring closet inside a janitor's closet. No ventilation and it shared a wall with the furnace room. I predicted doom months ahead of time but wasn't listened to. On the first real cold day of winter I got a ticket that the whole wing was down. Open the door to the closet and it's a steam room. One of the janitors left a whole bucket of water in there.

Needless to say all the equipment was fried out, an air conditioner was installed the next day, and all the janitors were warned not to leave water buckets in there.

OK, so how is this post "adult content"? Why the warning and click-through age verification to read this post?

If you look far enough, you'll find pictures of "network closets" in bathrooms, kitchens (restaurants), etc.

I thinking this may have been one that was just as badly placed.

Perhaps a christening or exorcism ritual? The latter is especially common with networking kit.
