There are reasons we like you to buy from us other than the very small markup we put on hardware. As happy as we are to take more of your money to set up this computer for you a second time today, I really do prefer it if things get done right the first time.

One of our clients went out and purchased a computer from Microcenter. This computer came with Microsoft Vista and a downgrade to XP. Normally, when someone buy's the downgrade to XP it's because they want XP so Microcenter had pre-installed the downgrade. Of course, in this case, they actually wanted vista and didn't notice that it was XP when I was out there today to configure it for the new user. Then they booted off the CD and rebuilt the computer with Vista. By the time I managed to get in touch with them, it turned into me re-doing all of my work from earlier today.

Oh well, it's a slow day on the helpdesk board anyway.

UPDATE: Also, they bought 64-bit edition vista. Shouldn't cause any problems with apps but completely unnecessary.

The is the part where you educate them by billing by the hour.

Don't you mean an upgrade to XP?

True. Esp since my acer laptop had only 512mb and Vista basic on it. (I'll never figure out how photoshop and sims2 ran on it.) Now it has xp pro and 1.5 gb of memory. :)

Where I work, if we didn't buy it for you then we don't support it. And if you want support then you pay through the nose.

the 64-bit version is supposed to suck less, and is also supposed to have a longer support life.

It also runs things like video editing, rendering and other graphic arts related things more awesomely : ).

I love having it at work.
