"My Blackberry took a nice long relaxing bath"

Translation?

The user left it in a pocket when they did laundry. And, of course, said device no longer functions.

At least THIS user owned up to it and is filling out the necessary damaged/lost property paperwork.

And it's a LOT better that the usual "water damage" we see. (Toilet)

But I had to share the amusement.

Hmm. The Crackberry had a nice long relaxing path. Or whirlpool soak. LOL

Better than either of us have had in a while, I'm guessing. LOL!

Better than my usual "I don't know what happened. it just stopped working! I need it replaced now!"

Then you open it, it is still damp, the indicator sticker nice and red, and it smells like coffee, or gatorade, or the dreaded hint of pee.

I had a laptop full of wine a couple years ago. Apparently the faculty had an illegal party in their offices, complete with illegal wine and cheese, which of course got dumped all over one of their open laptops. The faculty member obviously had no idea how that could have possibly gotten there.

At least it wasn't marinara sauce that was forced into the inner workings of the laptop during a motercycle ride commute. I think that was our worst offender, though coffee soaked laptop and gatorade soaked laptop totally came close.

The worst one I've had, I think, was the person who habitually let her cat take naps on her laptop. The thing was disgusting. There was cat hair everywhere, and by everywhere, I mean I even had to take apart the monitor and blow it out. But, that's not why she brought that filthy, cat-hair covered monstrosity in, no, no, no. What finally made her bring it in, was that it almost caught fire because the fans finally gave out from all the hair clogging them, but that still wasn't even enough, she just found that a little "worrying." It was later that same night when her cat decided to use the laptop as a litter box and the whole damn system just said, "Oh fuck this!" and died that she brought it in.

My boss and I took it as a challenged and actually fixed that shit. We had to disassemble it completely and scrub every single connector with alcohol swabs, but we did it.

Needless to say, we wore gloves.

1. Ew
2. How much did that cost her?!
3. The fact that the cat treats it as a bed AND a litterbox seems like there's some issues with how the owner treats her cat (and how she will be back)
4. EW.

Cost? She was a professor. It cost her two things: jack and shit.

Wow. That beats my cat story. We had someone who reported that the laptop wasn't responding on several letters when she typed, and that the keys were becoming hard to press.

They were hard to press because they were matted with cat hair. We pulled out almost enough hair to make another cat. Apparently the cat liked sleeping on the nice warm keyboard.

My cat likes to warm his belly on my digital cable box. The fat little bastard can barely squeeze in where I have it, but by God he does it. I figure if he's going to go to all that trouble, I'm not going to fuck with him.

I have cats that like to take naps on top of my systems as well. So I make sure I clean them out at least 1/week. Because trying to teach a cat to do something is impossible.

Oh $deity, the stories I can tell...

- Yogurt under the keyboard. And it had been there long enough to start growing things. Not fun.

- I work for a university-run shop, supporting mainly student equipment. So I've seen ever form of alcohol known to man inside a notebook at one point during the past 6 years. What makes it really amusing is when it happens to somebody who bought a machine without accidental damage coverage (like say, any Apple ever made).

- Bananas mushed into the cooling fan intake
- Missing screws in the notebook replaced with 1" wood screws. Because hey, all screws look alike, right?
- Laptop who's owner had a really bad case of psoriasis. There were skin flakes at least a full centimeter deep all over the interior of the machine.

..and so on, and so forth.

My last broken BlackBerry incident:

"Well, i took it out hunting, and it fell out while i was gutting my moose..."

Me: *opens BB, looks at the red dot that tells me the warranty's void. "Into water?"

"No, into the moose..."
