well, my dad picked up k4pz a while back. k4sz becomes available soon, and I'm shooting for it. I figure I've got about a 5% shot at it...4-land is OUT of 1x2 calls, and there are undoubtedly a lot of people trying to get k4sz when it becomes available.

However...it would be awesome to have k4 papa zulu and k4 son zulu, wouldn't it? :)

Even worse would be Belkin. I had a Hellkin ethernet hub on my desk for a while which started to get flaky while I was using scp to back up about 50 gigs of data over my home LAN.

I noticed it was a bit warm so I pried off the cover. I found the switch ASIC and voltage regulator in there were at, respectively, 105 and 120 degrees Celsius.

FAIL.

Also, I can imagine that being far better. DE KG4CYX, in need of a better HF antenna (my old Hallicrafters SR-160 does not like severe impedance mismatch... you'll be like "i can has watts plz?" and it's like "THREE!")

If I had a dollar for everytime I told some corporate db to not add sh*tty Staples networking equipment to their multi-million dollar dark-fiber MPLS network I'd sure not be working for the man :-)

I love boat anchors - unfortunately I am a city dweller these days and I can't get any reasonable antennae up. I end up on the HT working local repeaters, but that is still fun. My downstairs neighbor is a ham too, so we do occasional HF on his FT817 (little 5 watt job). I went to HRO showroom a few weeks back and drooled for an hour or so and imagined what scary antennas I would have if I had an acre or two of property - a full-wave rhombic perhaps...

Get a screwdriver style antenna, a trunk lip mount and hang it out a window. Works fantastically well. I use mine both in my apartment and on my car with a Kenwood TS-480.
