Okay, Sony. 2 DOA motherboards in a row? Both DOA for different reasons? Do you guys even CHECK stuff before you ship it out? Frak this. I'm shipping the machine to you and letting YOU fix it. I'm not tearing this thing down AGAIN. Hire some competent engineers to design your parts, please.

I had a friend who worked at Sony... I won't buy anything from them ever again.

I've had a lot of good experiences with HP and Dell. But I'm getting ready to build my own rig soon.

No, sorry. I don't use notebooks. Dekstops only.

I've had luck with this (http://www.mattcaron.net/projects/core_2_quad/). If you want more back info, read some of the back entries here (http://mattcaron.livejournal.com/tag/computers).

If they can't ship a motherboard properly, why would you trust them to properly fix the whole machine?

I want to do this to a Dell, though I'd be doing it with a strong base. My plan is to put it on top of my car, running, and then position the whole mess underneath a PDQ Laserwash 4000. The machine will dutifully apply a nice pH 12 presoak to the running machine, then high pressure rinse it. Hilarity will ensue.

I once had Dell ship me three bad motherboards and two sets of bad memory in a row for the same machine. I almost cried because I couldn't reach the dispatcher so I could strangle the motherfucker.

ah sony. had a little notebook i bought secondhand (but transferred the 3 year best buy warranty from the original owner). that fucker went through about 2500 in repairs while i had it, and then i implemented the warranty's no lemon policy and somehow ended up with a double-the-specs gateway (yeah, what?) and a new 3 year warranty.

i only go to best buy for warranty repairs. *shudder*

I absolutely will NOT use a Sony Vaio in any way, shape or form. Considering that they are by far the worst built machines that I've ever seen and don't have a single practical thought applied to their builds...
Now, I did have an HP that we replaced every single part on it and it still wouldn't work. We should have sent that laptop back to them to replace it rather than going out and replacing every component minus the chassis on completely different trips for each part.

I've decided never to buy a Sony computer because one of my friends had a Vaio laptop: It came installed with Windows Vista Home Edition. Fine, right? I'll just install Ultimate, or maybe even XP or Linux if I'm lucky. But no, it supported Home Edition ONLY. It didn't even support different versions of the same operating system! I'd be surprised if it could even BOOT from a linux CD, nevermind run it right.
(Sound and wireless were broken entirely in any other operating system, including Ultimate. It was proprietary hardware, with no available drivers.)

I'm an odd one- I've had a *positive* experience with a Vaio laptop, Specifically an FXA47 that's lasted a HELL of a lot longer then one would have expected. Aside from the funky video drivers which pretty much prevent me from installing anything but the stock ATI driver that the thing shipped with, the machine runs well enough for what I used it for at the time.

If I'm going to do another laptop, though, it's gonna be a Dell, IBM, or possibly a tablet PC if I can track down one that doesn't suck.
