Christ almighty.

Should we start a collection for the poor IT guy who will eventually have to deal with that POS.

Yes, that should end in a question mark.

Ouch. That box isn't worth $200. $40 maybe, but that's a pathetic amount of RAM.

*shakes head* not even really worth harvesting the parts for replacements...

Considering how badly people rape for older styles of RAM, and the increasing rarity of CRTs, and a valid XP license, $40 might just be enough. I could turn around and sell gullible people the mouse or the DVD drive for more than they're worth. :P

$40 yes, but not the $200 s/he is asking for. I used to put of notes in Uni promissing to 'dispose' of broken computers for free. The harvesting was great at times.

Ahh, I love my delicious valid XP license from years and years ago. It would take a lot of convincing to get me to part with it. :3

That's probably all the RAM the mainboard can handle. I just recently dragged an old Pentium III/700Mhz out of a closet that had that limitation. (I yoinked the 120GB HD and dumped the rest.)

OMG, the sad part is some poor schmuck out there still running windows 98 will buy this thinking they are getting a deal.

On a good day one might find a system like this on the free boards.

It is clearly the most advanced machine any of us will ever see.

Ever.

just an odd combo.

Eh. My guess is the person selling this isn't very old, and the system originally came with only one of those two chips. Plus there's really no point in getting rid of the old RAM when there's still room when you want to upgrade.

I'll give them $0.34 and a used stick, er, wad of gum for it!

Um... fast maybe the year he bought it. Holy crap, how are they even running XP properly on 384. Fail. Floppy disks? Epic Fail.

When XP came out, my laptop had 192MB RAM (I'd bought it with 64MB/Windows ME, and upgraded). It was pretty painful but it just about worked... I ended up scrapping XP (within hours) and going for 2000 but at least it booted ^.^

I found a machine on our corporate floor running XP on 128MB, the other day. I was so dumbfounded I just stood there for like, five minutes without moving or speaking.

Then I went back to my desk and got two 1GB DIMMS and installed them.

I think "running XP" on 128 is a bit of an optimistic statement.

Yeah, more like "crawling XP through a thick coating of preboiled molasses."

XP. On 384MB RAM?

I reckon I could turn that PC on, go make a three course dinner, come back, and the hard disk would still be going like the clappers trying to finish the boot process.

Probably the most expensive thing there is the 19" monitor. Never know, might be an old-school gamer out there who prefers a big CRT to an LCD?

Wow... that will run pretty much... nothing.

I wouldn't even try to throw winamp at it.

Craigslist never ceases to amaze me. (I suppose I should say, the general population who posts on Craigslist never ceases to amaze me?) Been reading their ads pretty heavily for the past month, since we're about to move. Checked apartment/townhome/house rental listings there, and now are looking at it for some odd furniture needs. I want to stab most of the people who post there...

Dude, I think my Neo Geo Pocket kicks that machine's ass. :/

RE: OP: HUH?!?! I think my brain vomited by reading that ad. $200? Hell no! He needs to give it to some jr. high student to write papers on, that's about all it's good for. Lord knows it's not fast enough to run anything else but WordPad...
