Condensed version: Novice user + Vista (not my product, thankfully) + $employer's wireless router and admin software + one of the most unintelligible accents I've ever heard + tendency to mumble or go totally silent in response to questions or instructions = epic fail.

Slightly longer version: I don't support Windows (again, thankfully), and my helpfulness to Windows users correlates fairly well with their ability to navigate on their own. That is, if that ability to navigate is zero and the response to every instruction is "how do I do that?", sooner or later, most likely sooner, said user is going to get booted to their OEM support or Microsoft in that order. Combination of mumbling and a bizarre accent (to the extent where I actually honestly cannot parse what I'm hearing) is going to make that happen *much* sooner.

And I really, really wish I could ask, "Why the f*** did you buy Vista if you don't even know your ass from a hole in the ground?!" ..

I think, its the same reason people drive Corvette's and Mustangs and then drive 20 under the speed limit.

Conversely, who the hell spends 3000 Dollars on a Vista HP Laptop, when they can't even find the start button.

...Especially when the old asian woman calls in, whom you can hardly understand, and when you inform her that we can't do what she is asking because it is not possible, assumes that you do not know what you are doing and then hangs up to call back and get another tech.

Yeah, I'm on the second tier, so I'm usually the one they get to when they've done the hang-up-and-call-back thing a few times fishing for an answer they like better. And when they get to me, and I have to explain to them that what they want in fact is not possible in this universe .. that's a lovely call, trust me. ("Yes, I know you want that answer, but that's not an answer I can give you because the product you're calling about just doesn't work that way. No, telling me you want it to won't help in this case. Yes, I can send a feature request, but since you want a feature that violates the laws of physics, I'm pretty sure it won't be implemented. Ma'am, please don't use that kind of language with me..")

That's the really insane part. People who seem to like to blow large amounts of money on flashy computer equipment seem to be the most clueless as to how to use it. They want it because it's expensive and they can show off what rich sods they are. And I wonder how in the hell they got that rich if it's painfully obvious that they are barely smart enough to feed themselves, when I'm scraping to pay the bills and I've *forgotten* more about the system they're dealing with than they'll ever know.

Oh man, I have so many memories of passing people in sports cars when driving back and forth to college from home (cincinnati to indianapolis). I drove our 1985 grand marquis (and should I mention this was around 2003?) and it was definitely obviously up there in age and not just a showpiece car. It also had the fun habit of engine knocks if it was driven faster than 60-65. I'd laugh at the look on the faces of those people as I passed them on the right (because they were also too stupid to move over when I was coming up on them from behind).

I had some asswipe in a mustang decide to remove the exit lane space I was planning on changing lanes into last night.

I'm fairly certain he's aware now that a PT cruiser *can* jump from 65 to 90+ in the space of a couple hundred feet when properly motivated. >:)
